Where Can I Go But To You?
Where do we go when we have trouble? Friends? Family? Do we think we can figure it out on our own? The Psalmist, David, wrote (under the inspiration of The Holy Spirit): My help comes from the Lord, who made the heavens and the earth. (Psalm 121:2)
In times of need, our God is there! He is the living god who preserves His people.
- God delivered the Israelites from bondage in Egypt. They cried out to Him, and He sent Moses to confront Pharoah.
- In Kings 20, Hezekiah cried out to the Lord for help, and the Lord answered by saying, I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. Then the Lord gave Hezekiah fifteen more years of life and delivered Jerusalem from the king of Assyria.
- God protected Daniel from being eaten alive in the lion's den and protected three Hebrew teens, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, from the fiery furnace.
God is in the preservation business! He helps His people in times of trouble. Throughout the Psalms, there is a theme that God delivers His people in times of crisis. The authors of these songs often cried out to the Lord and prayed for Him to deliver them. And He answered them, just like He'll do for us!
Psalm 54 says But God is my helper. The Lord is the one who keeps me alive! This author is confident that God will help him, and we can be just as confident that He will help us.
Remember God's promise in Psalm 91: I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.
Just a reminder!
